ABOUT THE PROJECT

In late 2020, the Tarleton Facilities Management and Campus Operations team invested in Oelo’s permanent LED lighting system in hopes of dazzling students with 7,500 lights and 14 control units, all used to illuminate nine of the campus’ most visited and visible buildings. Now, a purple glow emanates across Tarleton State University’s 122-year-old Texas campus, bathing these buildings in the school’s iconic color — and any other color that campus officials may choose as holiday and community events arise.

HOW TARLETON USES ITS OELO LIGHTS

Purple pride!

A member of the Texas A&M University System, Tarleton State offers a Division 1 athletic program, which means the school is all about its purple pride, especially on gamedays. (Even the school’s tennis courts are purple!) In fact, school pride is so important across campuses that every year on Sept. 2, universities celebrate College Colors Day. When Tarleton State isn’t rocking purple Oelo lights to root on the “Texans,” the school can use them for other occasions.

More than 120 years of history.

TEXAS-SIZED NUMBERS

Located in Stephenville, Texas, roughly 1-2 hours from the Dallas/Fort Worth, Tarleton State University is a 120+-year-old institution and has 14,000 students enrolled at the public university. The city is more than 160 years old with 21,950 residents.

A 800-ACRE UNIVERSITY

An 800-acre operational university farm and a preserved ghost town (formerly the town of Thurber and now the W.K. Gordon Center to preserve, research and document Texas’ industrial history) are just some of Tarleton’s many unique features.

fun university fact

Speaking of unique (and sprited!), Tarleton has a secret organization — the Purple Poo — that promotes school spirit. While the organization’s existence is not a secret, the identity of its members is hidden as they appear in public in costume.

“The Tarleton State University project was one of Oelo’s first cloud-based systems, which helped us take our commercial lighting product to the next level. You can’t beat Oelo’s anywhere operation of multiple buildings, and the Tarleton State University project is just one example of many that shows how Oelo is equipped to handle large-scale lighting projects that require state-of-the-art corporate controls.”
